MAKE YOUR FUTURE

workshop series for crafts council
birmingham, uk
june/july 2018-2020

artist:
sophie huckfield

working in conjunction with crafts council, this range of workshops were developed for stage 3 students to dissect their tools and technologies. they explored what a tool was (whether a cat, electricity or a hair tie) and how it worked in relation to their body.

following this, sophie invited students to create their own 'makers mark' in pewter, learning the ancient technique of sand casting. after they designed and made these, they stamped them into their own ceramic works of impressed 'tools'. they also worked with other moulding and casting processes common in manufacturing, such as alginate and plaster, to examine how our bodies work in conjunction with the tools we operate daily.
